    vacuum leak (high pitched squeal

I have noticed that when I accelerate in my 89 townie, I would hear a high pitched (not whine) but in a way, it sounds like like air sucking somewhere. It only happens when I accelerate. Any idea if anyone else went through this issue?

Acceleration makes low vacuum. Low vacuum makes the HVAC default to defrost vents if reservoir is leaky. Defrost vents do make loud woosh sound with the blower running at full tilt. So put the HVAC to panel vents, point them at your hands so you can feel the airflow, then hammer down and see if you feel less air blowing on your hands.

Could be many things. The parking brake release is a common one inside the cabin but it could be somewhere in the climate control system too. The whole air door system is vacuum operated.

And the howling noise is exactly what air can make if the blower first whips it into a frenzy (which is what blower does by default) and then the HVAC doors redirect it down the wrong path cause servos are losing vacuum and can't hold position against their built-in return springs.
