    What is it?

    I was working on a coolant leak when I saw this vacuum device. It is tucked deep down on the firewall on the passenger side. I took a few shots to show what I found. What is it? Can I live without it?

    If it’s for the auto temperature blend door for the inside, then I shouldn’t need it. I converted it to a manual control cable.

    I think that's the vacuum reservoir for the EGR or EVAP system... can't remember exactly which, but I think it's emissions related. It is a vacuum reservoir though.

      reservoir for the thermactor (smog pump) system actually. Not real important, but it needs to not leak just for general reasons. If you don't have the smog pump, you can un-plumb the vacuum crap to it and remove it. I have the solenoids on my car, but thats it. The only vacuum plumbing over there is a vacuum line to the EGR regulator, and one from the regulator to the valve. The smog pump lines are all gone. The plastic was falling apart anyway and I saw no point in fixing it just to cap it off.
