What the F, are you kidding me??

Ok........we all like OEM parts on our rides................but when I saw what was claimed to be a brand new (rs-16) NOS 16 lb rad cap for all 5.0 cars, and the 'asking' price of $350.00 I thought I was having a drug flash back from the 60's!!

Three hundred fifty dollars??.............as Chis on the Sopranos would quip.........."what the fuck!!"

Yeah, I doubt even old-stock NOS t-stats would fetch that much, unless 16lb caps are uncommon and go on some Ford lots of people want to restore to pure stock.

Otherwise it's probably just part of a money laundering scheme, lol...

I've seen ads like that on ebay. My friend actually got into contact with one of the sellers. He was told that the price was so high because they didn't have any more in stock. I would imagine this is the samde deal.

I wish them good luck selling it. They'll sit on it until hell freezes over.

That reminds me of the guy who had Mercury Flying-M turbine caps priced at like $650 because they were "rare". Some people must live near glue factories for the thoughts they come up with.

I was looking for two proportioning valves, for my Topaz and called B&B Auto Parts (Bronx, NYC). The guy told me he had one and it was 350. I know it to be a $30 or so part so I thought he meant $3.50. He said, "No, it is a very rare part and it is $350"! I told him it was not going to get rarer and have a nice day! I found the "A" part at a Ford dealership and the "B" part in Texas. With shipping, they came to about $35 each!! This clown must have played hockey before the mandatory helmet rule!!!

There are a lot of glue sniffers on ebay but if I wanted to maximize my profit, that's where I'd sell my crap. People seem to be sofakingdom on there that they get caught up in bidding wars and end up paying say $4,500 for a $2,800 car or worse, shit they haven't even seen in person!

I have a "thing" for NOS parts, and I have found that prices can be hit or miss.

In my current project realm I have spent a lot of time parts searching for '73-'79 Ford truck parts. There have been times when I have had good scores (I like NOS emblems, badges, etc). But there are other times when I scratch my head. I recently saw NOS (correct boxes and packaging) Ford/ Spicer locking hubs for a Dana 44HD (3500#) go for $1100. You can buy a better set of Warn hubs, new, take them apart and have the centers powder coated red, for less than $250.

I have seen sheet metal (especially bed sides) go for $1500+ a side. I have seen complete rust free used beds (with tailgate!) sell for less than $1000. This I don't understand, because there is no reason to fix a pick up bed when a suitable replacement is available. Replacing bed sides is almost always going to be a compromise compared to a complete bed.

In my case, there are a ton of aftermarket (both good and bad) parts available. I have found several companies that make rubber parts, chrome parts, trims parts, etc from "original Ford tooling", and the quality of these parts is fantastic. I have no issue substituting these for used OEM/ NOS if they are quality, and made in the USA.

"Did you eat a lot of paint chips when you were a kid?" Huh huh, why? Seriously though, there are a lot of crack-smokers out there. When I had my '98 I was shopping around for an '04 PI airbox and ziptube to put on it and some of these clowns thought they were gold. 3-400 dollars for something that comes stock on half the cop-cars you see driving around. If I'd had the time to scour every junkyard around I could've found what I needed for less than 100 bucks. Eventually bought a setup off someone on CVN. Anybody need an '04 zip tube? lol Gonna use the airbox on the '90.

If you've got time to dig on ebay sometimes you'll have luck with good prices by just searching for what the item is, not what specifically what it is right down to the damn product code. To get a period correct delco CD player for my Fireturd I searched "GM Radio." and had to scour tons of radio ads but eventually found one that didn't break the bank.

When I was on the hunt for service manuals for the '89, it was amazing just how many ended up in bidding wars to end at a cost higher than Helm was selling them for new. WTF people, don't you do any research? Worked out in the end, got my manuals eventually for next to nothing thanks to the idiots having already spent their money on out of hand bidding wars.
