    Temp sender unit

    87 colony park 5.0

What does the temperature SENDING unit (1 wire) send data to since there is no gauge on the dash? I know the ECT (2 wire sensor) gives input to the PCM.

Does the check engine light use the sender (1 wire) or the sensor (2 wire)?

One wire to the replace engine light. 2 wire to the computer.

Ok so when I install a water temp gauge I will be eliminating the check engine light that clicks on when over heating?

Precisely. Remove that one wire unit and replace with whatever your aftermarket gauge calls for.

what he said. Just make sure you tape off the stock wire. If it grounds, the light will come on.
