    Persistent alternator squeal after 3G upgrade

    So this has been going on ever since I upgraded to the 3G. Squeal on startup. It goes away but is annoying as hell. Belt is new and tight. In fact I worry that it is too tight. Alternator practically new. This has gotta be one of the most frustrating things. Should be something simple but I can't figure it out.

    I seem to recall something similar when I first put a 3g on my wagon. If I remember correctly (which is suspect) the bracket I was using wouldn't let me put enough tension on it.

      Nice place to be from. Know exactly where Lawrenceburg is. Used to live in lexington. I knew a guy there named Bob Adkinson.

        The belt routing on these is a bit sketchy. Seems you really have to reef on that tensioner to get the belts tight enough to not scream. Mine always end up tighter than I think is correct to be quiet at any rate.

          I get a squeal when I first start the Box with it's 3G. Belt is tight, so meh.
          1990 MGM: $50 E7 heads, HO cam, Holley SysteMAX lower intake, HO upper intake with an Explorer TB. LSC ECM. Lincoln logs into stock dual exhaust. K&N drop in air filter. Wide ratio AOD, 2400 converter with a 3.08 one tire fire out back. Car is less slow now. Then there's the '92 Beater. Dual 2.25" exhaust with shiny tips. Rumbles nice. Super slow. Burns oil too.

            mine (the 88 mgm) does that on startup too, but it's the power steering pump pulley slipping. meh.

              Guess that's not getting fixed unless you feel like changing the pump/pulley??

                  Just over thirty years. Went to UK, graduated and moved to NC. But I'll be back. Wife is from Campbellsville and we'll likely retire there.
