probably getting about time to think about a replacement motor, just in case. Mine actually did this to me once years ago, and I've been waiting for it to happen again so I can have an excuse to order another motor. hasn't though, so I've been ignoring it. Thats probably been at least 3 years ago now.

Where should I get one?........found an NOS one, but the price is over 225.00! My '86 takes a motor from 80-86....they changed something in 1987 to 1993.

the connectors are different. it can be modified to take a later one but I forget the particulars of it.

part store motor is probably what I'd get. I'm too cheap to spend that much money for a wiper motor. The last one I put in something was the shiniest looking one out of the junkyard. I'm also the guy who removed and rebuilt the blower motor in his truck and one of his cars, and has rebuilt all of his window motors rather than replacing any of them.

Cardone claims their motor number 40-278 fits both 86 and 87, they make no mention of different connectors or having to mod early units. The FoMoCo p/n for the 86 is: E6AZ-17508-A......the one for '87-93 is: E7AZ-17508-A. So where do I go now??

The only solution for the no-park issue is rebuilding or replacing the wiper motor assembly. The failure to park, and stopping mid-sweep when turned off, are caused by dirty or defective contacts in the drive head of the motor. These contacts "tell" the motor when to stop and when to reverse to kick the park cam down.

This comes from a number of experiences with various years of Ford wiper motors.

I've had the buzzing on my '83, it's the intermittent delay module which is wired inline with the wiper switch under the dash.

A relay starts to chatter or something, causing a buzz-like sound. Probably can be repaired, but I haven't tried yet, just replaced it.

I think David converted his, but its a 1 plug vs 2 plug motor. Mine is a 2 plug, one into the motor and one into the gearbox for the parking switch. The later ones have just a single plug that has wiring for both. I think the adapter harness basically has the single motor plug on one end, and the 2 plugs on the other. I know I've seen that harness before, but I expect more people just lop the connectors off and re-wire it. I believe it changed sometime early in the 1987 production but maybe it was full year. 87 was a funny short run year anyway, and '86 has a lot of strange one-year parts and crossover parts that don't list correctly.

Why is this condition more apparent in the winter?

Do you know the p/n for this relay?

I can not find the delay in my 1986 Electrical and Vacuum trouble shooting manual?

I have looked at many diagrams, can't find the delay module, is this another name for the intermittent governor?

                          yes.

It may be a matter of grease getting petrified and jamming up the switch. Grease gets hard with age anyway, and it gets hard in the cold too, couple the two and you've got rocks in the works instead of lubricant. Possible that taking the motor apart, flushing all the old grease out, and re-packing it will fix it. Thats what record player require to work right when they do stupid things like this.

Gadget this is the harness you are talking about F4PZ-14A411-B....it allows the use of the 1987-1993 motor on cars made from 1980-1986.
