Bought one, years ago for my '87 (dealer boys probably forgot to replace it when it was there for warranty repairs). Cleaned it up and used 404 so it looks good. Got to have that "rubber" ready as you never know when some slickster might slip my distributor a drink and try to "get over on it"!!!

I don't honestly remember if i have one on the Towncar or not. I know I have one for it, but I wouldn't swear if its installed. I don't think the Mark VII has one. I try to not open the hood of the car often, so I don't remember whats under there. If I turn the key and it goes, then there is no reason to poke at it further.

Looks good, but that air cleaner is tiny. I think I have more air filter on my lawnmower. Air in = power out.

Gadget, I have the factory air cleaner, but the sucker is so damn big, and it's a PITA to make adjustments to the carb! The filter element is a KNN, and before I purchased it I spoke to one of KNNs engineers, he asked me the cubic inch of the engine, what it red-lined at, what speed(s) I anticipated running it at, and some other things like the CFM of the carb, to make a long story short, I would have to be doing over 110MPH to "see" any significant air flow restriction....so anal as I am, I put the factory air-cleaner away, and adopted that KNN that you see in the picture

I want to say a guy I know has the covers on both of his Colony Parks, but I'm not certain. I don't he has ever complained of any issue with the distributors, either.

The electrical experts may know best. I always was informed that the rubber cover prevented electrical interference with other electrical items, like the stereo. I have the cover on all but the 96 CV.

On mid to late 80's cars, have you kept the rubber boot that surrounds the distributor cap?

When I purchased my '86 Tudor the rubber was missing, and I ordered one from Ford.

I believe it's to keep out dampness?

As I said I have it on my '87 but it had been missing for years and I noticed NO difference. Just wanted it to look OEM and got it for $5 so why not???

I've heard of the radio noise idea and the water idea... considering the shape of my cap and rotor I just changed (after 30K miles) and it had ZERO corrosion on it... I'd say it works for the moisture aspect.
