3G convert question (on the charge cable)

I was fortunate enough to score an alternator from the JY of an upgraded 1988-89 Mercury grand marquis.

I took off as much as I could from it. However, the person didn't use the in line fuse for the charge cable. Without buying a whole new cable, can I buy just an in line fuse, like this one?

I don't feel like forking over another fifty bux for this

shipping is extra unless you order over $99 worth of stuff, but it'll probably still be less than finding those at local stores.

Did you get the 3G or the 100 amp 2G?

I got the entire setup (charge cable, pigtail, and megafuse) off of a 1998 Mercury Sable wagon. I think most late-90's Fords should have a similar setup. Make sure the wiring is in good shape since these are 15-20 year old cars. I recommend buying a cheap fuse holder on ebay to make the setup look nicer.

I had to cut some of the plastic to make the megafuse fit, but other than that it will work fine.

FYI some GMT400 trucks have a usable fuse holder and cable...observed this in a junkyard recently.

The bonus is it's accessible and easy to remove, unlike for example a Taurus.

No such thing as a 100 amp 2g. They used the 100amp 1g on cars with the heated windshield or high output alt option.

The 100 amp also has the external regulator and a larger frame size, which means a different upper bracket. the 2g is internally regulated with quick connect plugs. The 3g is internally regulated with a bolt-on charge cable.

The 100 amp doesn't have amazing idle speed output, but its not an unreliable alternator. If I had a working one (and I do actually), I'd leave it alone until it gave me trouble. Last I priced one, they are more than a 3g would be to replace from the parts store. Whenever the one on the Mark dies, its getting upgraded if I can't slap a set of brushes in it and make it go again for cheap.

I have a working 1G without a regulator... pulled from the Lincoln when I did the 3G swap on it.

If its a 100 amp I'd be interested as a spare, but I think that only came on cop cars, Instaclear cars, and the Mark VII. Maybe some trucks too. The Mark VI probably had a 50 amp small frame 1g.

                      yeah... it's a 60A small frame 1G.

The alternator in your picture is a 3g.
