    Almost zero heat..

Sometimes it won't be at all warm, other times slightly warm. either way it gets cold here in PA... and if i can't figure this out, the car will have a for sale sign on it .. lol

89 Marquis, not automatic temp. checked cable for temp selector, is not broke, and coolant is full. has new radiator and all new gaskets and thermostat in engine. no leaks anywhere. any ideas?

Clogged heater core? Try flushing the heater core.

Seconded, try flushing the heater core, backflushing the heater core, re-flushing the heater core, re-backflushing the heater core.

Took my mechanic at least six cycles to get the thing decently clear of chunky black nasty shit on my silver '91, but at least I have heat now!

If you have a new radiator I assume the cooling system was flushed? If so simply flushing the heater core, even multiple flushes, would be less work than replacing the heater core.
When replaced the core on my 91 it seemed much easier than I remember the job being on 89 and older cars. If I had to do it again on my 91 I could probably do it in 2 hours or less.
Most labor time manuals quote it to be a 6-8 hour job, from what I'm told, for an 89 and older car.

Then again you likely have the original heater core which would be enough reason for some people to change it before it develops a leak.

On my 91 I could drive 10-20 miles with the heat off, then switch the heat on and I would initially get a hot blast of air that would quickly go cold.
Since the core, I guess, was only mostly clogged the amount of area getting hot was not enough to keep up with the air that the blower motor was blowing through it. So driving with the heat off for a bit gave the small unclogged portion of the core enough time to heat the whole core.
Try that and see if you get the same results, and if you do then your core is at least partly clogged.

30 minutes is not normal. if you don't have any heat inside 15 minutes, my first thought is bad thermostat, or lots of air in the system. Or a very massive clog. Even with a clog though, usually its just feeble heat.

If the hoses don't get hard, thats usually an indicator that its not heating up, or there is air

if the hoses get hard, see what the hoses at the heater core are like. If one is hot and the other is cool, its clogged. They should both be hot, though one will be somewhat warmer than the other if you are using a laser thermometer thing on them.

also, stupid question, the radiator is full right? And the coolant looks like coolant, not like the toilet after a night of bad mexican food and too much beer ?

about 10 minutes for my cars... 15 for some good hot air... 20 for ice melting goodness.
