Damn, that's a lot of wires to be soldered.

Isn't there already a parking light relay? I hear a click when I turn the parking lights on. Maybe it's a 90+ thing?
1990 MGM: $50 E7 heads, HO cam, Holley SysteMAX lower intake, HO upper intake with an Explorer TB. LSC ECM. Lincoln logs into stock dual exhaust. K&N drop in air filter. Wide ratio AOD, 2400 converter with a 3.08 one tire fire out back. Car is less slow now. Then there's the '92 Beater. Dual 2.25" exhaust with shiny tips. Rumbles nice. Super slow. Burns oil too.

That's the dimmer relay for the clock, IIRC.

(and thinking about it, it's ironic that they'd use a relay for something as insignificant as this but not as important as parking lamps...)

Time to find it and unplug it and see for sure what it does.

Yeah, my first replacement switch went bad with the same problem and I had already added headlight relays so this thought had crossed my mind as well as putting relays on the tail lights. If I ever got around to installing my amp in the trunk I'd have the power right there for it.

If you have a tow package car, there is a relay in the trunk for the trailer lamps. It doesn't unload the light switch at all though. Keep in mind, the front lamps run on that circuit too, so doing relays on the tails won't completely unload the switch. It would be about 50% of it's original draw though.

yeah... I'm pondering the relay off the wire from the switch and placing it near the fuse box.

You could switch to LED bulbs and drop the load on the circuit.

Anyone done that yet? Put LED replacement bulbs in the stock housings. If so, post some pics!
