I remember back in the day copper heater cores were the best to get. Does that still hold?

the aluminum ones work very well and you shouldn't need to worry about the solder cracking as they're welded.

Gadget, on my '86 I did by-pass the TBLOS, but did not plug the vac lines......do I have to do this, and if I do not, what happens?

if you don't plug them, there's just a vacuum leak and the AC system will drop to heat/floor under load.

I never plugged the lines on my 89, and never had any issues. I guess that portion of the switch still worked.
