Its not really a restrictor like in racing. Its purpose is to even out the distribution of the fuel/air mix so that it doesn't end up running lean on some cylinders. It probably doesn't harm performance in any meaningful way, but it likely helps with detonation problems.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

I posted this pic on an MPG CFI thread I started on speedtalk before I found the pic of the the plate trying to pick old timers brains for mpg's, and only the interested learn.
I bet this plate would help roundie cars mandated to run a 2 barrel....... They don't run WOT the whole race.. What's the diff between a CFI and a holley or autolite 2BBL? Still fuel entering at the same place, and the same throttle blade angle. Probably even TBI chevy guys would benefit if they made their own style version of this plate..

Aren't the injectors mounted slightly off center on the CFI though? Seems to me there is some mechanical reason in that throttle body for the uneven fuel distribution that carbs may not have.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

well, i mean are they off center, or positioned in such a way that more fuel goes to one side of the throttle plate, etc. Might just be the support stand for the injectors is the whole problem.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

I made a plate today.
Then after another can of inspriration, I decided these notches would serve the plate's purpose and help atomization..
On my 93 v6 MPFI dakota I had awhile back, I swapped to smaller injectors and upped the pressure. Night and day driveability and MPG's, which another can made me remember.
GM plan... My plate, my modded egr spacer, 3.8 cfi injectors, adjustable VACUUM REFERENCED fuel pressure regulator for a 'stang, and a countour cooling fan setup...
Gonna do all the TB related stuff at the same time..

speed density has great throttle response. Mass air has a little air flow lag (about .25 second typical IIRC) compared to SD. Perceived response is greatly helped by gears since the easier it is to move the old boats, the faster they get going, the "better" the response is.

I'll keep the community updated when I get paid for next week's work, Sly.. I hafta order the parts after pay day, wait, install, and tune. First though, I have to full tank it a few times to get a baseline MPG rating. These are truly archaic systems.. Like playing atari vs. ps4. CFI... when it works... works great and gets pretty good mileage... but it's very much a gutless wonder. EFI is more fault tolerant, but doesn't get quite as good of mileage but has a little more power. Mass air HO generally has more power, and driven nicely, better mileage. 3.55 gears gave me between 2 and 3 MPG increase in my 88 lopo as well.
