    AC shit the bed.

    Good evening all.

Well, the AC in my 91 CV/P72 shit the bed last night. Compressor won't engage. In the last 2 years I replaced the compressor, drier, oraface tube and converted to 134. Drove it to work yestrday afternoon and it blew cold. No issues. Left work and the compresor won't engage. I checked the plug because the little clip is and has been broken since I got the car. Every once and a while the plug will work itself loose and pushing it back on does the trick.

    This time, not so much.

Going to run a jumper from the battery to the compresor to check it, but in all honesty, I pretty sure it's good. Outside of the relay, what else do I need to be checking. Hi/Low pressure switch...

I really need my AC here. Thanks.

Ok, found the problem. The high pressure line for the compressor was rubbing on the AC compressor bracket. Now it has a hole in it. Gotta find a shop that rebuilds those lines, or just buy a new one which ever is cheaper.

    Damn.

You might want to give the whole thing a onceover while the system is open, new orings, accumulator, orifice tube, valve stems, etc.

I don't mean to jack a thread, but are the stock AC systems on these cars installed with pressure switch so that it won't engage the compressor if the refrigerant is low?

yes. Later models also have a high pressure switch so if something gets clogged, it won't blow up.

The switch on the 89 went a couple of weeks ago. It turns out that is a low and high cutoff switch.

I found out when the flap guy corrected me when I asked for a low pressure cutoff switch.

                    flap?

as far as I know, the low pressure switch does not have a high pressure limit as it would just blow the pressure relief valve on the older systems (unless it's rusted solid).

If I find the box in the garbage I will let you know, IIRC it was marked with the low & high limit.

interesting... though that wouldn't do any good as a high pressure switch on the low side unless something was really screwed up.
