    Negative Battery Cable

My negative battery cable was messed up so while I've been fucking around with everything lately I decided to replace it. Problem is (as usual) I'm fucking clueless. The cable that came off had three wires (refer to the picture below), the long large one (1) that was attached to something near the bottom front of the engine and the long smaller one (2) that was attached to the metal next to the radiator, and the small short one (3) that plugged into a socket of some sort.

The new one I ordered only has two wires, the long one (4) and the short one (5) which has nothing on it.

So... wtf do I do? I went to the parts store to see if they had one but they pulled out the exact same kind. Guy there said I'd have to splice the short small wire with the plug (3) to the short small wire on the the new cable (5). If that's the case then what about the second wire (2).

    Thanks.

if the old wires are still good, but the battery terminal is crap, I'd cut the wires off of the bad terminal and replace with a repair terminal. Much less expensive, but requires a little more work, and will leave you with all the correct connections. The new cable looks like a universal cable (which never seem to be quite right for anything really).

You could splice the two smaller wires into the one on the new cable.

yeah, the number 1 wire of the old cable is cracked open, the terminal is fine though. I could splice the 3 to the 5 but I don't know about splicing the 2 to the 5, the 2 is much bigger, just a little thinner than 1. I dunno.

They're really just grounds, I would attach the new long one to the engine where the old long one was, then attach the one that went to a socket to the small ground one the new cable. Not sure what the one to the radiator is all about, but you can ground it with a ring terminal to the body, or a ring terminal on the battery post nut. (The one that tightens the cable to the battery). That's what Id do

Yeah pete that's what I should have bought but I don't really have time to order it now, nor do I really want to pay 30 something dollars for it.
