that metal tab on the left side... press that inward and pull. If that still doesn't get it... see if there's another one on the right side as well.

I had the opposite problem, I couldn't figure out how to mount an aftermarket radio in my 91 MGM.
What I ended up doing was putting a metal sleeve on it from another radio that I had laying around and screwed that to the radio. Then bent some of the metal tabs on the sleeves up so so that they were in the shape of a half circle to act as points of tension, once I got the radio in though i found it was not going anywhere unlike before I put the sleeve on.
So if it is like my setup it might just slide out with some force, but I would have to remove the ashtray to push it from the back. There are 2 tabs at the back of the ashtray that you have to push up to slide the whole ashtray out.
Unless it somehow has a setup like the stock radio then you need a special tool or cut up coat hanger to undo the stupid clips.Last edited by VicCrownVic; 06-10-2013, 12:42 PM.Vic

They make a tool for that - I think Walmart carries it or Crutchfield but you can get it with thin screwdriver. Just like "Sly" said....

I've used all kinds of stuff for those stupid clips, thin screwdrivers, nails, cut up coat hangers, but never the actual tool. With an aftermarket radio that tool might not work with out modification like bending the ends in or spreading them apart unless the spacing between the clips (if it has them) is the same as the stock radio.Vic

Yeah, that tool works if you have the "holes" on the sides of the radio (OEM). For non-OEM there is a clip on the sides where the tool I was referring to works.

You need the keys that the previous owner kept from you.
Or the thin screw driver method....~David~

I had a panasonic that had the side tabs like this one that just pressing them inward allowed the unit to be released. It was missing the bezel that hid that part too.
if that doesn't work... make something like this...
and pull it out.
also, the manual should be downloadable from pioneer's website. It WILL tell you how to remove it.

If I could find the model # I would have - but nothing outside is giving me the number. I guess it's stamped on the metal case, behind dash outasight.
Thanks for the tips guys. I see what I need to do now. Makes sense. I'll see if I can remove it tonight. I hope the PO used the aftermarket radio connectors so I don't have to cut/splice the factory wiring.-Nick M.

What you need will look something like these. They usually come with a new head unit, if you happen to be replacing it.
