Hey fellas I am solving some electrical problems on my 89 cv and I would really like my ditch lights to work. I thought I read in here there are relays. But am not seeing any listed on any part store sites. Also where are they located. Also found a pristine dash pad for my car today at the jy. Love the sat morn jy crawl! Never know what you might find.

look under the column. Attatched to one of the bolts there are two round silver things that look like a blinker stat. They aren't relays in the normal sense. Actually you might be able to replace them with blinker stats, don't quite know for sure.
Have you pulled the bulbs out and cleaned the sockets? I had lots of problems with mine from corrosion in those sockets.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Yes the sockets and connectors look good , saw those silver thingys of which you speak. I was hoping for a part # . And I'm still stoked about that dash pad!1989 crown Vic daily driver 165k and counting!

if the silver things are bad, the cornering lamps will flash with the turn signals. If yours do nothing at all, those probably aren't your problem. also the liklihood that both died in the same way is unlikely.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

The cornering lamp relays are wired AFTER the turn signal flasher in the circuit (turn signal comes on, sends a moment of power to cornering relay) , these relays will latch on for 3 or 4 seconds after power is applied and then trip off. With the turn signal flashing, it keeps it energized for the duration of the turn signal being on. So no, you can't use regular relays, but you might be able to source something from an electronics catalog that has a self energizing/releasing relay that stays on for a few seconds. (has to stay on longer than the time between turn signal flashes, but not so long that it stays lit excessivly after the signal cancels).
As for correct relays, try looking for 1987 and 1991 crown vic/grand marquis/town car. 1989 seems to be the bastard year when it comes to parts books being incommplete, or wrong. (See stickied heater blower resistor message).
Things you can do in the mean time.
1. Check the integrity of the ground to the cornering relay cans. So measure resitance from a proper ground point to the can. They ground themselves though their mount. Bad ground = no worky.
2. Check for turn signal input on one of the cornerning relay wires (there are only three, signal in, full time power in, and signal out to the actual lamp).
3. Check integrity of wire from the relay to the actual cornering lamp. (Resistance check).
4. Cornering lamp grounds.
5. The cornering lamp itself.

just a quick suggestion if youre not gonna be too particular about it.
my Merc never had them.. i have blank fenders so i have to cut them and make some holes for them to mount. but i wont have any of that wiring. so im just either wiring them to stay on all the time with parking lights, or i will wire them to the 2nd filament of the bulb so they flash with only the turn signals..
either way it would be a simple solution if your not try to make it "original"

one of these days I'm going to make an effort to re-engineer that whole system. I don't like the delay relays and i don't like how the blinker has to flash a couple times before the ditch light latches. The Mark VII has a different MF switch with a dedicated output wire for each ditch light to eliminate the hodgepodge relay system that the Panthers got. I'm pretty sure I can retrofit a Mark VII MF switch with our switch lever and duplicate the system. Have to actually get the parts in my hand and see if they will physically mount up though.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

I will be watching for that. My next mods will be 3G alt and under hood fuse panel. I like what some people here have done under hood to make things function and look much better1989 crown Vic daily driver 165k and counting!
