    Water Leaking In

I have an idea what's happening, but looking for confirmation.

The driver’s seatbelt is soaked. When I feel around the headliner above the seatbelt slot, it too is soaked. It is not wet by the dome light or the rest of the headliner. My driveway slants to the driver’s side. I believe the water is coming in from the vinyl top trim mounting bolts, traveling down to the opening by the seat belt. A few years ago I had the vinyl top replaced and think they didn’t RVT or put much RTV on the trimming and now water is coming in.

I looked at the door seals. They look OK. Even if they were leaking I don’t see how the water can reach the area that’s soaked above the door seals. Am I wrong? Is it the vinyl top trim bolts holes? Is there anywhere else I should be looking?

What I would do, is get some low stick tape, like painters tape. Then tape around all areas where you think water is comming, then, wash the car. If nothing gets wet, your on the right track. Then you can use proccess of elimination and pull back sections of the tape. If you start getting water again, you have isolated the area.

I went out in the daylight after work and I think I found it. I can almost get my little finger under the vinyl top trim on the driver's side. I think the screw/bolt came lose. When I look close I can see the part of the trim that slides into the roof. I'll wait for some dry weather and try some sealant until I can take out the headliner to fix it.

Check around that side light too, but it does sound more like a leak under the crown molding. You may need to drop the headliner, pull the molding off entirely, and use some RTV where each bolt goes through to seal it properly. Sealing it from underneath is not likely to fix it.
