    Panel Lights

    Dear Panthers,

I am planning a new instrument panel for the Shooting Brake. I've decided on gauges and shift indicator which leaves only the warning lights for ABS, Check Engine, Low Washer Fluid and (maybe) Low Fuel. The best I've found aree Dormans

But they don't have symbols or letters that indicate the referent.

    Suggestions welcomed.

Goto the wreckers and start taking apart some instrument clusters and look for clusters that use an overlay with the symbols. Harvest the ones you need, and then look for an indicator light you can split the lens from, cut the overlay to fit inside the lens and bobs yer uncle.
With a similar thing in mind, make a dash section with square cutouts, and stick the harvest symbols behind the finished trim and put lights behind it. Similar to how the warning lights on the 73-87 Chevy fullsize pickup trucks is.

    Alex.

I like that better than my idea.

You could get small vinyl letters and fix them on the lights you picked out

The only good looking indicator lights I've found are the Dormans and I'll only need a reminder of its referent when it pops on, so a small vinyl letter seems the least trouble. Thanks. Donald

If you are okay with reminders maybe have a different color designated for a different problem/indicator.

That site you were talking about for the custom instrument cluster a few weeks back has exactly what you are asking for. Might be cheaper to make them, but here's something premade, that you could order to most likely exactly what you would want
http://www.newvintageusa.com/panels.html They sell warning indicator clusters that you can have setup with all the different indicators you want.
