    Door Handle went kaput...

Hey guys my buddy went to go open the passenger door last night and the door handle came loose and somethin fell inside the door.. so now you can't open the door as for the left of the handle pulls out.. is this fixable or do I need a new handle?? I imagine this is a pain in the ass to change.. anyway the car is an 89 TC. Thanks Mangs

it's fixable... you will need the plastic rod clips as that's probably what dropped and the rod is what you heard fall.

you can find assorted packs of those clips in the HELP section of most parts houses.

Been there, done that. Pull the door panel off and reattach the rod to the handle again. as slymer pointed out, you can get new plastic clips on the HELP isle at the parts store.

does the handle seem like its moving normally or no? The other failure is the pot metal cracks at the pivot and the handle halfway comes out of the frame on one side. Usually only happens on the driver's side though. if the handle moves like it ought to, its the clip.

just a note......look at the "other" side from the rod attachment on the inside...if the lil spring and rivet is missing you will need to put that back in too...mine fell out, which caused the rod to disconnect...also these door handles are lincoln only...but at least they unbolt..(marquis and ltd are riveted in)

if the rivet fell out, you got lucky. A lot of the time the pot metal around the rivet cracks away and you have to replace the handle assembly.
