wiper motor replacement on the '91 GM

How exactly, does one get the clip off the back of the wiper motor post to allow removal of the motor??? I spent over an hour trying to figure out how to do this! I removed the rubber hood insulator and the plastic wiper guard, and have absolutely no way to reach that ^^&(^(%(*%(&^-ing clip! So, now I still have a motor that will not park, and refuses to come out.

    HELP!

Remove the 3 bolts from the wiper motor. Spin the wiper motor to where the clip is reachable. Slide the clip off with a screwdriver. You'll most likely break it in the process... Have fun...

the clip has a hook on it that keeps it from sliding off. Stick a pick or small screwdriver under the hook and lift it so it will slide over the shaft of the motor. It then falls off into the pile of leaves and crap inside the wiper box and you'll probably never see it again. If its rusty, the hook will break off. Either way, get hold of a spare clip. As long as you have it, you will not need it.

Tried all that, to no avail. How does it go back ON, is the big question! No way in hell can I get my hand bent and convoluted around to get to the back of the motor assembly. Sure, a screwdriver will get it off, eventually. This is a giant PITA.

push in on the clip and slide it over. It goes on pretty easy, getting it off is the PITA. If the clip isn't up in a position you can get it, that crank arm on the motor will freewheel one direction. I forget which, but I believe its opposite normal rotation. If you can get ahold of it to roll it around, you can get the clip up where its somewhat more accessible once the motor is unbolted. This is definitely not one of the easier jobs to do on these cars.

I finally got around to replacing the motor this past weekend. After an hour of trying to access the clip, it was FAR easier to simply remove the damn hood, then I had all the room in the world to switch the motor out!!! Once the hood was removed, I then twisted the old motor (with the arm still attached) and brought the wipers up to the full travel. This allowed incredibly easy access to that friggin' clip! I removed the clip, dropped the arm, removed the old motor and then vacuumed the leaves and dirt out of the motor well. Once that was done, the reassembly went quickly and effortlessly.

So, on a '91 and earlier GM or CV, remove the hood to R&R the wiper motor! It will be sooooooooo much easier for you!

hood alignment is a pain in the ass. I've removed plenty wipers from boxes without having to pull off the hood.

One hour, start to finish, with removing the hood. Without that, it takes forever, and I do not see how any human can contort to the point of both removing that %^&%*&^%$^*%*(-ing clip, and then reattaching it, without removing the hood. Worked great for me. I highly recommend this method.

                Aligning the hood is simple.

u-joints and sockets and a pry bar worked for me.
