Okay so i bought a new dryer, orfice tube, expansion valve, and new seals for the 84. I was able to get my a/c bracket that had a crack welded up, so yesterday i put all the hvac stuff back on and i wasn't sure where exactly the expansion valve is located? Also i noticed with the compressor and everything hooked up if i look from the side of the motor where the pulley is on the compressor it doesn't quite line up with the crank pulley in a straight line. Seems like the compressor is siting or is pushed back some and everything is hooked back on the way it was last week. thanks matt

also i noticed last week before i took the hvac stuff off to replace it all i had the car running and i went up to the blue cap thats on the old dryer and removed it and the compressor was pumping air out of the valve. Is the valve bad or is that normal. The a/c system was empty of freon so it was just pumping air out. thanks matt1984 mercury grand marquis ls rebuilt 306 flat top pistons with factory cfi and lincoln headers with single glasspack dual snorkle air cleaner. You don't have an expansion valve. You have a fixed orifice tube. Compressor should not be running with no charge, you'll kill the compressor and you'll have to replace everything. If the compressor does run with the engine running with no charge, your pressure switch on the accumulator drier is bad. Replace it.
