I've done a couple AC systems "by the book" and they haven't worked out as well as some I've seen that were just halfass Walmart conversions without a vacuum or anything. Maybe I should try halfassing one and see if it works better.
Gadget was just saying that sometimes, with AC systems, the ones you don't take as much time/care with can end up better than ones you go overboard on. Still, I err on the side of being obsessive compulsive with HVAC. You always charge to proper amount, and no need to do a 3/4 charge. Running w/no oil is worse.

I didn't mean you were halfassing it, but I was saying I ought to give it a shot. The job we did on Scott's 92 was all the wrong stuff. Used drier, splicing the hose with hose clamps, no flush, no new orifice tube, etc. Just dump some oil in, vacuum it down, charge it up. Its colder than my car which has almost entirely new parts including the compressor and was done as "by the book" as it gets. I don't mind telling you that fact irks me.

38 degrees at the vents is pretty cold. Whats the outside air temp?
