4g upgrade info? I can't find any threads

I wanted to find info on using a 4g alternator in the 89 and i tried a few searches without sucess. Has this been discussed and I just can not get the hang of the search? Anyway any info would be appreciated.

Also kind of related, does the large case 100amp 2g decide to start fires like the standard 2g?

The upgrade is using a 3g.

I don't believe any of the 4G alternators exist in a case style that bolts to our engines. They're actually not really any different to hook up than a 3g, but if it doesn't bolt to the motor its not going to help you.

No, the 100 amp isn't inclined to start fires. Idle output isn't so great and they are expensive to replace but they don't light things up.

I was looking for an alternative to the 3g. I think I will look into the 100amp 2g. I will start with studying the wireing diagrams. I guess the connectors must be diffrent than the standard 2g. Does anyone know off-hand?

the 100 amp requires different brackets, and an external voltage regulator. The connectors aren't remotely the same as the 2g. Unless you have it on hand, I wouldn't bother with it.

with a 100 amp 1g you're downgrading and need to run all new wires. 3g just need to run a charge wire to battery...

Why do you want an alternative to the 3G? It's like the perfect easy direct bolt on upgrade. Easy to wire, easy to install, and works really well.
