mine just has a tendency to go to defrost when you have your foot on the floor not a big deal in the winter but it will become a big deal as soon as summer comes back.

the hot/defrost thing is definitely a loss of vacuum. could be a number of places, the check valve is just one of them. its easy enough to test, just see if the check valve leaks. If you can blow through it in both directions, its plenty leaky enough to cause a problem.

its definately a leaky check valve ive had two motorcraft ones both were no good upon purchasing and ive tried two generic check valves from the help section at the local auto parts store one lasted a month or so the second went out yesterday. If the motorcraft ones actually worked I might buy another but two bad ones in a row makes me wonder.

Might have been a "bad batch", which you were lucky to be part of. Usually their parts do last.
