    Instrument gauge/cluster bulb replacement

I need to replace 2 bulbs on my cluster - the oil pressure light and also the brake warning light. Is there any way you can snake your hand behind the dash and access the bulbs, or does the cluster have to come out? If so it looks like a job?

You have to pull the cluster as everybody says, but it's not nearly as hard or bad as it looks.

            I'm doing this now, actually.
I did a 1990 cluster, that was different...
for an '89, the cluster isn't coming free (and yes, I got the gear indicator wire).

I think it's hanging up on this fat cable that goes to teh speedo.
            How does that come free?

there is a collar around the speedometer cable where it mates up to the instrument cluster. Find the bit of the collar that has a little more meat to it and push it upwards towards the inner cable and push in towards the cluster and pull out all in one complete motion. The speedometer cable has a little clip that mates to the cluster to hold it in place. By smushing the collar in that manner you release the tension between the collar and speedometer housing allowing the two to become separated.

Looks like you first pull the right and left trim strip moldings, then the panel.
Then you'd have to pull off the steering column cover (the thing that has the two 8mms screws down below and three covered by the left trim strip. Probably have to pull both halves of the steering shroud thing too. But after that, can you just unscrew the cluster screws and pull the cluster back far enough just to access the bulbs? Or maybe the tranny indicator thing might have to be unfastened too?
