    double post (I know)

honestly at this point, an ebay factory Body and Electrical tech manual, a 18/22 circuit Painless harness and a trip to a junkyard to harvest factory connectors might be the fastest cheapest and best option.

You know the car runs well when the only things left to work on are the rear door cigarette lighters.

Pulled a harness from a '91 CV from the kickplate through the trunk wires as some of mine were burnt thru the insulation along the driver channel. Mechanic already installed it, and spliced it into the wiring for the rear a little bit before the rear seatback, past where the wires were burnt up. He couldn't get the seat back off, even with an air ratchet. Maybe I posted this stuff in another thread? Oh yeah, sorry, 'wiring harness differences' may have been where I was posting after I got the thing pulled.

I have an EVTM purchased recently, but I'm lazy. Most electrical wiring I've ever done was harnessing an aftermarket radio and wiring in a sequential taillight kit to a previous '91 GM. It was all wire nuts in both cases too. I shouls probably learn how to do it right with heat-shrink tubing .

or butt connectors. Wire nuts do not have a place in a automotive wiring...

An impact wrench for the seatback? Everyone knows you need a 1/2 drive, jackhandle, and 3 hernias to get those off.

            Congrats on finding the problem!

Well, mechanic double checked his work & it's all good, and he doesn't want to run me through the financial wringer of hours worth of electrical shakedown. So the rear defroster is unplugged at the back, now the light on the switch doesn't light up. I had both front and rear parks when I took it home the other day, but only rear parks the next morning. Not a big deal as long as they stay lit. Just gonna drive it from here on out.

Somewhere in this thread seems like I recall a reference to fuse #8 blowing. I seem to recall having a similar problem. I had installed an aftermarket stereo in my 1993 MGM,and it turned out that the bulb receptacle for the ash tray was grounding out on the bottom of the stereo , or some such thing. That's the way I remember it. Should be able to search the archives and find the thread.

I now have a similar problem. Replaced the headlight switch and receptacle. Turned out I had two of the wires switched. So I put the wires as they should be, initially using jumper wires to connect them, and everything worked as it should. This morning , I removed the jumpers and spliced the wires together, and now I have no running lights, and maybe no dash lights(it's kinda hard to tell in daylight). So now I'm sorta trying to puzzle it out. Any ideas?
                    Thanks,
                    Don.

loose ground would be my only guess without just tracing everything in the connector to a wiring diagram again.

I had the wiring harness completely replaced from the driver-side kickplate (beside the E-brake pedal, all the way along the channel to the rear seat. After I swapped in a known good switch and had the wiring pigtail replaced!

I don't run the radio any more because I smelled electrical stuff burning. The ciggie lighter in the dash is completely unplugged. I gotta get with my neighbor eventually to remove the back seat with his huge breaker bar, so I can replace the rest of the harness back to the fuel sender wire or whatever, as the fuel pump is STILL running the defrost (if it were plugged in.). Still no front parks, rears still operational.

The harness was TOASTED along the driver-side channel, the mechanic that did the wiring was amazed the car hadn't burnt to the ground.
