Thats the way it is. Its is more of a your brake line sprung a leak warning. And in some cases, you need to put quite a bit of push into the pedal for it to come on. In theory only, it should reduce the flow of brake fluid out of the sprung line when the piston gets shoved to the low pressure side.

All the more reason to replace that little disaster with appropriate aftermarket valves from Speedway Motors! 2cents: I only hope the '90-up system is a bit more reliable.
I will say, though, that driving a RWD car in snow with NO rear brakes is quite an experience!2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!
