    fuel gauge "tuning"?

    Hi!

Did a thousand things to my car, only really took it for a test drive today.
One of those thousand things was redoing the heater core, and tearing out the dash in the process.

    So anyway.

My gas gauge always used to go from 1/4 tank to uber-full, needle disappearing under the display full.
Before I retired my car to the shop, I made sure to leave just a few gallons, estimated, in the tank.
Yesterday it was at 1/4 tank and the gas light was on.
This morning I refilled the tank for the first time since retiring my car for its long overhaul, added 16 gallons (to a theoretical 18 gallon tank), and found to my surprise that the gauge only read 3/4 full. So obviously the gauge still works, has power, but it's reading in a range of 1/4-3/4 tank, not 1/4-5/4 overfull.

    Any thoughts?
I can go to a gas station and see if I can actually add any more gas (and maybe they didn't give me 16 gallons!) but that seems a rare scenario.

More likely is that when I had the instrument cluster out and was playing with it, I did something...
Working...
