Ok mechanic got to looking last night and found that the check valve I just got is leaking. He went to the local Ford dealer and got two more and they both also leaked so apparently these things have been sitting a long time. So I'm wondering what would happen if I plug off the line on the vacuum tree that goes to the check valve, and I take the line that goes from the check valve through the fire wall and I tee it into the line from the smog pump to the cruise control servo to me this should work because the cruise servo always has vacuum created by the smog pump so therefore the ATC will always have vacuum.

rock auto has the right one. motorcraft part yg337. $5
just put one in my car... sorted my warm air issues. wasn't leaking enough to have vent issues yet.

if you can find a good check valve with an instant stop check (like the motorcraft is supposed to be) and T off of that... it should work like a champ. I haven't been able to find any decent singles out there. The little ones in the help section are too small for the hoses off the vacuum tree and industrial ones I've found don't do well in the engine bay heat. Might try one for a later model explorer since it's a T style check valve as well.
