broke my climate controls: what to investigate?

I did my heater core and, of course, tore out much of the dash.
I've got a 1990 grand marquis with manual climate control.

Got the rest of the car running last week, at long last, and have the first opportunity to use everything.

It may well be important to note that I found that I had no brake boost, and subsequently, that I'd left the relevant vacuum line for the climate controls wholly unhooked.
I'm only going to get to fix that tomorrow night, so, haven't found out.

The problems were twofold. One was that the selection slider is physically stuck on max a/c. This probably isn't a vacuum question-- is it definite that I've jammed something and should pull the control unit back out of the dash and check it out?
The other problem is that while I can control the fan speed, and hear the fan, I'd be hard pressed to hear any air at all coming out of the vents. It might be coming out the bottom of the dash, as per floor heat for example.
Maybe that is vacuum powered, and as soon as I've rehooked that vacuum line, I'll find that the air blows out the vents again? Is it quite likely that in messing with the dash for the heater core that I moved the position of the splitter or whatever controls air flow, and that without vacuum, it can't move back to where it belongs?

the vent position is vacuum powered... you will need to pull the controls to check out the slider issue... and yes, most of the issues are related to the vacuum.

no vacuum = air coming out the defrost vents. Hook up the vac line, that should fix at least that much. Slider being jammed you'll just have to take things apart and look at.

Ah, yup-- hooked up the vac line, and it did indeed fix that much.

As per the slider, I'd remembered incorrectly: it's actually stuck on "off" but putting out a/c. I'll just have to take it out and see what's what...

I've only seen 2 working ones. The 92 Grand Marquis here, and my parent's 94 Vic

the temperature levers seem to jam or break on them. Never investigated why, but it just seems to be a poorly built thing. The early ones don't seem to fail much.

my 93 that scott has right now has the "jiggle it a bit" vent selector. Temp lever is fine though.

could be the blend door actuator or the interior air temp sensor. 91 truly has the godforsaken ATC system with the electrical BS that fails. The early system has 2 vacuum parts that fail. Both are much easier to fix than the electrical crap.
