    Heater slide control 91 P72.

About a month ago I had the AC fixed in my 91 P71. (new compressor, lines, drier and recharge) Blows ice cold. Now, before it starts getting cold outside I would like to fix the heater. The problem is the temp slide control in the car is stuck on cold. Not such a problem now, what with the 100 degree weather, but I wanted to get a jump on it for winter. I think that either the cable is seized, or the blend door is locked up some how. It hasn't worked since I got the car but then I didn't care as the car was a weekend toy. Now that it's a daily driver it would be nice to have it working.

The question is, if it is the cable, can it be freed or should I just replace it, and if it's the blend door same question. Also, I have never had a 90-91 panther dash apart. How much of a pita will it be to get to the blend door?

I've got a 91 and although my control wasn't frozen it was very stiff and hard to move back and forth. It turned out to be the cable. And since I had a very nice control panel and cable, I put them in. Now it works great, very smooth and easy to slide from hot to cold and back again.

I really doubt it's the blend door on your car, but thats possible. And if thats the case you will have to basically get to it as if you were doing a heater core. Thats the only way I know to get at it, maybe someone else here knows better.

I would check the cable first, that is what has been the problem with the cars I've worked on. It's very easy to get to, just remove the glovebox on one end and the large plastic dash trim over the control panel.

Everything but the blend door is within easy reach.

Thanks for the quick response. Sorry I haven't gotten back with an answer yet as I haven't had time to mess with it. This weekend I should have some free time so I'll play around and try to get the cable freed up. If that doesn't work, the pull apart yard is just 15 minutes away.
