Having a bit of trouble visualizing the trouble, as the stock regulators I've seen just have four flat male terminals that plug into the stock plug. Or were yours like male spade connectors? Just seems inconceivable to me that a replacement regulator wouldn't plug right in without a stupid adapter.2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

That meant that the new regulator had nothing to connect to without buying a new pigtail/connector.

it appeared to be designed so that there was no plug, per se. where you inserted the wires was integral to the regulator. I'll try and get a picture later, but in essence there wasn't any way I could figure to remove the old regulator beside cutting wires, even if that wasn't going to be done anyway.

hm, those wires should be on a big common plastic plug. They aren't hard-wired in. Sounds like the plug had gotten stuck, or maybe in the past it crumbled and someone just shoved the individual wires onto the terminals.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

I'm guessing it overheated or something and fused. Maybe even someone snapped off whatever retainer type things held them together, and then it melted enough to fuse. it looks basically like a seamless version of the new stuff.
Whatever though, it's gone and not garnering weird looks at traffic lights anymore. Thank y'all for leading me on the right path.
