    Radio Problems

well my stock electronic radio took a shit and died. i went to the junkyard and picked up a ford electronic radio out of a 1991 ford f150 similar to the 1989 radio i use to have. took the plugs too. how do you hook this up using your existing power feeds. though my problem is one plug has a o/b wire, lb/r wire, red wire, green with yellow wire and yellow with black wire. the other plug is for the speakers. i used a multimeter and found out on my existing wires that i have no power being sent through the hot key on wire. fuse is not blown what would be the problem. i have power being sent through hot always wire which is the memory storage wire. need help here. also how do i test the radio i got out of jy.

If you have no wires that show voltage with the key on other than the constant hot, its almost got to be a fuse or a problem with the ignition switch. I dont know which wire is supposed to be key-on but if you have an EVTM its in there. There should be one constant hot for memory, one thats hot with the lights on, a ground, and the rest ought to be speakers.

Success i was able to convert the old ford radio connectors(the 2 grap square connectors) over to the m100 Series connectors(Dual Connectors 8 pins each). One is for just speakers and the other is power connections. the f150 radio was junk so i got another radio out of a 1990 grand marquis ls today.

http://oem-auto-accessory.com/photo_page.html here si the link you can see the m100 series connectors.

      Advantages

Sound is surpassed of the old ford electronic radios(1983-1986)
My amplifier works with this radio along with the internal amp.

My current problems i have with it

this radio has a push on and push off type power button when pushing it off it will quickly shut off then go right back on. What is the issue.

here is the m100 radio diagram 1990

on-off switch has worn out on that one and is defaulted on... OR the push isn't being pushed in far enough to latch. either way, I still have to stock radios (bolt-in from the 88 and the slide in from the 93) if needed. Both work perfectly and use the dual 8-pin connectors (AM/FM/Cassette). Make me an offer.

do they work good. are they electronic ones. not analog. how is $15 plus shipping for the bolt on 1988 one. how is the potentiometer on the volume knob. is it worn or nice and stiff.

it's pretty solid. IIRC (and it's been a WHILE since it was in the car) there was a little left right balance adjustment needed (like just off center), but I could be remembering another radio. Too many Fords over the years. Shipping will probably be about $10. I need to find a box to put it in yet, so I'll keep ya posted. Once I find a box I can better figure shipping.

edit: just grabbed it... the balance knob is about 2 ticks towards R... so yeah... it's the one I was remembering.

it's exactly the same as the one you got but the push-on/off works. It also has the L/D (local/distance) switch and the Dolby NR button for the tape. Yeah... it's all digital. The volume pot still is firm with all the click points. I can't comment on sound quality because it's been too long. I just know it worked and sounded stock.

is it the premium sound one or the stock electronic one. Also i will give you $20 if you could also get me the amplifier for it. i need a new amp as my current one only amplifies through the left side and the right side is blown in the amp.

How did you get the slide-in stereo to mount in place of the bolt-in?

it is being held only by the old electronic radio(1983-1986) slide on metal bracket. that is why i want a bolt on one so it doesn't shake. plus it is just temporary as this radio is gonna be going after slymer sends me his bolt on one. the tape deck in this one only plays sound through the left side speakers and barely through the right side. the illumination is all fucked on it. when key is on you can hardly see the numbers. when pulling out the headlight knob the illumination brightens up much clearer and you can see the numbers clearly.

mine is the stock electronic one. well... above stock since it has the L/D and dolby... but it's not the premium. I have almost the entire premium out of my Lincoln (the harness from the deck to the passenger kick panel is still in my dash), but that one is larger and probably won't fit at all.

best idea is to just get an aftermarket stereo and install that, run all new wires, it is less of a headache to be honest.

the amp may have one dead channel though. It might have been a wiring issue in my car (which is a moot point now), but the right front channel didn't work when I would switch on the premium.

It's the 4 channel one with the round pin plugs... not the blade plugs.

If anyone knows how to actually test one of these (power-up, input/output, etc) then I will test it to verify function.

one amplifies 2 speakers, one amplifies 4. the 2 way amps usually drive the front speakers, and the rear speakers run directly off the radio.
