LOL, I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught that. Cmon folks. It's 12 volts, you could touch it while barefoot, naked, and standing in a puddle of salt water, with absolutely 0% chance of electrocution. It might be difficult to explain to the neighbors why you're working on your car naked though...

yeah...it's great for you. my bad.

I'm really trying to figure out what was wrong with trying to warn someone against holding bare metal in their hand while they completed a circuit with it.

If we were talking about household current, it would be a valid warning. 12v in a car, is about as dangerous as putting batteries in a flashlight.
One exception. It's a bad idea to short out a 500+ amp battery, but that has more to do with burning yourself (and your wiring harness) than any sort of shock hazard.

Usta be an older guy telling a kid 'here, hold this' and passing a plug wire before hitting the key was a right of passage

I've heard that new high powered ignitions can be dangerous though.

Had that happen to me Monday. First time I've bothered to clean ALL the starter circuit terminals and grease them. Got plenty of rust, aluminum oxide, and even salt residue out of the connections. I figured something had gotten damper or saltier than normal (possibly frozen dampness, since it did it only while it was below freezing) and decided to thumb its nose at me when I needed it.

well i bought a new thermostat today. the brand is fail safe and is made in isreal and has a lifetime warranty. i went to put it on and overtightened the thermo housing bolts and cracked the hosuing so i got anew one i installed it with the gasket and everything nice and snugged and it leaks antifreeze out from the housing do i need to put some silicone gasket on the housing to seal the leaks. hopefully my car isnt destroyed from running the engine for 5 minutes at 220 Degrees.

I always use RTV and no gaskets on stock-type water necks, and try to let them sit and cure at least overnight before filling with coolant. O-ring necks are also nice, but the O-rings need to be replaced every so often and are worthless if the mating surface isn't flat.

I saw a thread elsewhere with some tips and tricks for water neck installation .... if I dig it up, I'll have to post up some of what I read.

unless you bought one of those rubber gaskets that specifically doesn't require goop... you'll need goop.

fail safe= FAIL! iv had nothing but issues with them stupid T-stats. iv replaced a few in my own and friends cars cause they stick open. i replaced 3 of them in my buddies ranger. one little burn out, then she is stuck open and running cold the next day. never had an issue when replaced with a motorcraft one. thats why i use alot of motorcraft stuff that is still avail.

I'd say cast iron block + cast iron heads = it's probably OK. Good luck.

Put goop on the compressed paper gasket. Then install and tighten carefully. You won't have to wait if you do this. Black RTV alone works well, but then you gotta wait 24 hours before filling the cooling system.
