driver side mirror remote in door armrest

what keeps the remote joystick from pulling up thru the console plate? i'm thinking it is this mystery clip i found on the floor, but despite a zillion different attempts to utilize it, i can't figure it out.

i pulled this door panel off the day i bought the car (to fix the handle), and i *really* want to get it all back together... this is the last step.

anyone? shop manual doesn't even show it.

there should be a chrome ring around the hole where it pokes out of the window switch bezel. It slots into that chrome ring which screws into the window switch bezel.

85 4 door 351 Civi Crown Victoria - Summer daily driver, sleeper in the making, and wildly inappropriate autocross machine
160KMs 600cfm holley, shorty headers, 2.5" catted exhaust, 255/295 tires, cop shocks, cop swaybars, underdrive pulley, 2.73L gears.
waiting for install: 3.27's, Poly bushings, boxed rear arms, 2500 stall converter, ported e7's, etc

06 Mazda 3 hatch 2.3L 5AT (winter beater that cost more than my summer car)

i've only got the one chrome ring which threads down from the top... but then you can lift the whole assembly up, as there is nothing below (the joystick mechanism is smaller diameter than the hole). in other words, the ring threads onto the joystick, not the switch plate...

I'm not sure if that means you've got something stripped out or broken, or I'm just forgetting something. If no one chimes in by tomorrow I'll see if I can figure it out with my spare mirror and window switch bezel.

i'm convinced this clip is involved somehow, but i've tried a dozen ways and nothing seems right.

I doubt that Ford would have a clip on teh cable hold the whole thing onto the bezel. That's just a bit too flimsy and finicky.

i cant belive i cant remember what is to go there. i wonder if its like the pass side remote. it has a cast peice that threads on first, then you put it through, then the chrome ring locks it in.

The nub that holds it is busted off. Look at your control panel, in the hole, there should be a nub sticking out there
Picture a circle, that's got a straight end, on one side and then on the other, it's round, but it's got a little Tab sticking out.

                    Something Like this
