fuel gauge not working

    fuel gauge not working

    my fuel gauge dosent work.i replaced float,tested sending unit with ohm meter and it works also cleaned sending unit wires,fuse is good.what other step could i do or missed

    89 townie, mild exhuast up grades, soon to have loud ass stereo....

      you could have a loose connection to the back of the instrument cluster.

        Did you touch the gauge needle with your hands? If you did, you probably fucked it up. Been there done that.

          locate the ground and signal wires at the sending unit. cross them 2 wires. if the gauge and wiring is good, the fuel gauge should read full.

            no bad ground,no loose connection on the back of the instrument cluster,didnt touch the gauge needle with hands,did test with test light ground and signal wires at the sending unit good as per shop manual. found my problem my low fuel switch was bad did test as per shop manual.thanks for replys its good to have a shop manual handy

                        good to hear it was an easy fix. i wounder if this is to any relation with digital lincoln gauges.

                              The reason it makes a difference is not only is it a low fuel light module, it is also an anti-slosh module, so that the gauge doesn't move all over the place when you drive like I do, or like on a Chevy.

                              Looking at your diagram it doesn't look like it controls the voltage regulator for the instrument cluster, but it just hooks to it. Either way, if it shit the bed it could make the fuel gauge not work.
