    marine terminals

    anyone using marine battery terminals? i had to get some new cables and my terminals are old so i picked these up....i am often disconnecting my battery while i service the car and these will make it easier.


    any reason not to use them?

      cool, I'm not too worried about that.


      Where does the fat negative cable ground the battery to? I can see it go down toward the bottom of the engine bay but it disappears and it's too damn wet in my yard to crawl underneath it right now.

      I've got 3 ground leads coming off of my battery, the fat one running to the bottom of the car, a slightly smaller gauge bolted to the top rad support, and a tiny gauge wire going to its own harness then it runs along the fender and disappears inside some tubing with other wires.

      I'm guessing the big one grounds to the block?

        yup!

        When I replaced my cables, I went battery to frame, frame to block.
        The tiny one is the ECM ground.

              They slide over the battery post and go between the battery and terminals. Help with corrosion.

                funny thing, the wing nuts in the marine world are gonna be obsolete. they tend to get loose on they own. now when you by a marine battery, they come with nylock nuts instead of wing nuts...ask me how i know lol

                  If I were you, I'd take all that back and either get the HD solder on lugs and battery clamps to make some with welding cable or have some place like Finning make some to your specs. It may cost more but with some silicone and shrink tube over the ends of the cable, they will be far better.

                  If you have a Princess Auto near you, its a good choice for the cable, and the lugs for things like the frame and starter.

                    i just bought the cables with the correct brass terminals already attached. the ones you got just add another point to come loose on you.

                      I'd be worried about the wingnuts getting in contact with the hood somehow. (somebody sitting on the hood for instance). Just get some nylock nuts to replace the wingnuts and you'll be good. Makes it easier to add stuff with the marine terminals.
                      If it where me though, I'd go side terminal battery and tuck those terminals out of harms way. (And yes, I run a side terminal battery in my mgm, I despise top post batteries).
