electrical problems on my 85

i got the battery installed last night and today i was checking to see what works and what does not.

works:
Hazards
Ignition switch turns the starter
Horn
High beams

semi-works:
turn signals ( the turn on but they do not flash)

does not work:
headlights ( i believe i cut the power wires on the backside of the fuse panel)
i believe this is the reason that the parking lights do not work either.

that sucks!!! if you suspect cut wires, Id get back there first.

Are you sure you didnt remove any forward lighting wires from under the hood?
Maybe you disturbed the turn signal flasher too... i think thats behind the fuse panel as well.
Or do signals and hazzards work off the same flasher? Im not sure.

the hazard and the turn signals are practically the same circuit, so if its not the flasher, its got to be somewhere between the switch and the hazzard button.

Ill take a pic of the wiring diagram if you want.

the hazzards are different, so jus change the turn signal flasher.

im pretty sure i pulled the headlight power wire out of the fuse panel. I already have a second fuse panel that i am running the Ignition, fuel pump relay and guages off of, i still have 2 empty slots on it.


both hazards flash at the same time, i think the flasher thing may be bad.

im pretty sure i did not remove any lighting wiring under the hood, i tried to trace everything before i removed it.

alright got some stuff straightned out.

turn signals work i switched the hazard flasher for the turn signal flasher and they both work ( the turn signals did not flash before because i have LED tail lights)

Head lights work best when the connector is connected to the switch :drug:
low and high beams work as do the front marker lights the rear side lights 1 tag light and one tail light. The passenger side tail light does not work i will try replacing bulbs and see if that helps.

the left side of the speedo works, although it seems kinda dim. th adjustment knob did not effect much. the right side must be blown ( i should have replaced the bulbs in it after i got it from the junkyard.)

the interior light does not work ( not sure if the bulb is blown or because i removed the switches out of the door, although it does not come on with the switch.

i will try to get a picture of the guages lit up in a little bit

here is a pic of the guages and the tach. the tach is white but it also will display 6 or 7 different colors. it is a Summit tach
The dash lights are on here which shows how dim they are.

Mostly I find the dash bulbs don't burn out so much as just lose contact. Try pulling them and cleaning where they go in and they might just come back. All the bulbs in place might make the dimemr work right again too.
