    right turn signal?

    Hi!

    Nagging little issue:
Just every now and then, once in 200 miles, my right turn signal will go silent and start flashing rapidly: a safety feature, I'm sure, to let me know that my light isn't working; though I wasn't about to hop out of the car and verify!

Trouble is, it's only occasional. Like, a few seconds at a time --it has never been off for the entirety of even one right turn-- and that one time will be once in a tank of gas. So it won't be easy to pinpoint!

Assuming that it IS an electrical problem, my question would be: did this happen to you, and is there a particular harness or solder point or place where the wire might nick itself on a screw, where I could go in and look?

My other option, is that sometimes, I think maybe more on left turns than on right, my turn signal handle doesn't like to stay in place; at the extreme I might want to hold it down, but it's rarely that bad.
THAT is strictly mechanical, but I'm wondering, if the hold tabs are worn, maybe however that switch that's built in there works, is not contacting adequately.
To test that theory, the next time this happens to me, I'll hold the turn signal lever up with force, and see if the signal immediately responds and starts to work again.

But until then, what are your thoughts, has this happened to your car?
    thanks!

My guess is an actual bulb is out when it's doing it. Maybe it's loose in the socket. The front turn signals have metal bulb retainers that get left off. The bulb still goes in but can be a little loose. Or maybe the bulb filament itself is getting ready to let go or loose.

My first step outside of checking for obvious wiring problems would be to replace the turn signal bulbs and check the retainers in the front. If that doesn't fix it, then a more detailed wiring check and turn signal switch check.

loose bulb or corrosion in the socket is a fair guess.

Flasher is common to both sides, so I'd expect some erratic behaviour on the left also.
Could also be a bulb with a bad filament.
