    Need to know how to remove 3g alt pulley

    Need to know how. I've already destroyed the pulley itself trying to loosen the retention nut. I've managed to spin the pulley on the shaft without turning the nut at all on the shaft. WTF is the trick to getting the pulley off of a 3g alternator?

      ^^^ yup, I just had a buddy hold the pulley still and buzzed the nut off with an impact

        Wut they said. I step on the pulley and hit it with the impact, never had a problem.

          yep impact gun

          1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt

            Impact is the way to go. I didnt even need to hold the pulley!

              hmm... I used a breakover bar and spun the pulley on the shaft... I guess it needs the hammer affect... I'll pull out the impact later then.

                yeah...it's gotta be impact since leverage won't do the trick. Sort of how you can remove lug nuts with the wheel off the ground with an impact but you can't with a wrench.

                  I've done the removing lug nuts with the wheel up before... lug wrench one way and bar between lugs the other way... but yea... I get the idea. Will definitely try tonight. I want the smaller pulley on that 3g. I want the lincoln to be happy at low RPM too.

                    with an impact, you should be able to hold the pulley in hand and impact it off. or, you could use a vise instead of hand lol

                          it swapped... still needed to hold the pulley with my channel locks. Impact tool managed to spin it some more. That nut was on bugger tight. It did come off though. Got the smaller, original one on the 3g and the belt just BARELY made it on. Now to get a bolt/nut/washers to hold the thing in place.

                            You could thread the upper ear of the 3g alternator to accept a bolt. That is what I did on mine.

                              yeah... but that would require taking it out and taking it and paying someone to do that... $5 at a hardware store and I'll be set (if that much).
