I recall first seeing a link to that auction in the context of someone saying Ford can't get them anymore ......

often there are many things that "can't be gotten" unless you go to a dealer who doesn't suck. Mercifully my local dealer has a guy who is willing to spend a couple minutes looking for stuff. There is a lot of stuff that just cannot be gotten anywhere, but without the right person to know where to even look, you're never gonna get anything.

True enough. My limited experience suggests that the dealer closest to me is of the sucky-parts-department sort (guy carelessly produced some random pigtail when I went in asking about those special clip-in spade connectors), and that a place across town isn't, or at least isn't nearly as bad.

                lol

Depends in part on how it failed, too. A previous owner of my '81 somehow managed to break not only the collar but the cable-housing thingy as well. Not sure how to crutch the cable-housing thingy with typical redneck measures.

I have a back up cable that the broke. I remedied the problem by filing out a groove where a zip tie would fit into nicely and secure it. I hope I dont need to use it. but I am prepared if I have to. At least I made my speedometer plug and play so it wouldnt be that much of a problem.

the cable tab broke off of the one that was on my cluster. I need the whole thing... cable and all to hook up to my cluster now. I've been driving it without the indicator since I got it anyhow, so meh.

Saying spare would have made more sense.

Backup in the sense of my current one breaking....I then have this one to back it up if need be.

yeah but when the zipties don't work, you gotta do something else.

Check with Ford, they should still have them. If I am thing right they are the same as some F-150 trucks.
