Low fuel light not working but it does

I just picked up an 81 marquis with a low fuel light. Car was low on fuel when I picked it up. I put a bit in it of some fuel and the low fuel light came on. When it got low again the light went out and we put more fuel in it and it came on.

Someone tells me the cluster is no good??? The car has no miles on it and not a single green wire to be seen anywhere

anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

the low fuel module sounds whacky. Whenever mine has gone funny, its been bad grounds. Most of the time you can fix it by unplugging the module and plugging it back in. It should live under the dash near the gas pedal. Usually its a blue box that says 'fuel warning module" or something to that effect>
