    fuse for aux. "power port"

Wiring in a second 12v plug in my buddys car. It's not a lighter, and he's only ever going to use it to charge his ipod and run his portable dvd player.

What size/type of fuse should I put inline for this?

You'll need a decent size wire. I've heard of some of those things blowing the fuse that the cigarette lighters are wired into. Something larger than a 20amp fuse. Beefier wiring will make sure you don't burn up the wiring from the current draw.

yeah I'm going to run all new wires for this right off of the battery I think. I don't want to fuck with any of the other powered items.

20 should be plenty for any "portable" device. Those generally only use an amp tops anyhow. Coolers and computers use way more power and you're still not going to overload 20A with either (but maybe with both).

I used to install these in customers' cars for auxiliary braking systems when towing behind a motorhome. 20A should be more than plenty, just make sure you use a good 14GA wire with it. 14GA is probably a little bit of overkill but it will not hurt anything.

Just use an inline style fuse holder with a blade fuse. Should be available at any auto parts store.
