I did indeed. Far too sick and tired of dealing with that little annoyance again. And again. And again. And then discovering I have one solenoid that's reluctant and one that sticks .... yeah, annoying.

Better still, today I found some of my fusebox garbage and finagled things so I'm using a 30A relay instead of the fender-mount solenoid. Still have the solenoid in place for now as a power post and for a backup switchy source, but so far my relay-in-Windstar-fusebox experiments have proven quite reliable.

Late Vic 'boxes look more convenienter as far as mounting possibilities in our stupidly-laid-out engine bays and get to use normal-sized fuses, but this one has room for six relays.

I had no idea the old-style starters were that bad. How many of them did you replace?

How many what, starters? Dunno, I usually just replaced them when they'd start acting weird.

Solenoids, I've had several stick on me at various times. The one that just got reluctant to make contact was bought in about 2000 to replace the original on an '87 that'd started sticking, and was pressed into service again to replace the sticking one on my other '87 that I think was only a few years old (I remember TOTCG telling me he'd gone to a bit of trouble to get a nice one). I've replaced a couple of older-style relays also, one on my '79 and on my '81. The one that was sticking on me most recently was a brand-spanking new Motorcraft that cost $26. And it stuck closed multiple times with an old starter as well as a brand-new one. So yeah, it's been something of a frequent annoyance over the past 10 years or so, and the first incidence cost me a starter because I didn't know what to do about it and it kept cranking till the starter puked.
