    Power Window Problems

My front driver's side power window isn't working again. I took it apart and cleaned the switches with contact cleaner. After that, I tested both wires with a test light and they both seem to have power running through them. I think something in the motor is bad. When I push/flip the window switch, nothing happens; even the interior lights fail to dim a little. We replaced this motor with a JY piece five years ago. I don't know what else to test at this point. You guys/gals got any ideas?

and the wire harness is still hooked up good? Maybe the motor itself needs to have the brushes cleaned.

Yeah, everything else seems to work except that one window; which we had problems with before.

will the motor run if you power it directly off the battery? If not, its toast.

Either there's an open in the wiring, or the window motor is open electrically.

I nabbed a window motor from the JY from a MGM with a clean door. I realize that I haven't cleaned the door drain in a while and it's stopped up with crap. Will this kill a window motor? In any event, I'm going to start taking the door apart and see what I can do. Oh yeah, the JY motor has a little grease on the gear; what should I use to lube it? White lithium, gear grease, etc....?

I use axle grease in mine.

Yup, I used axle grease also. Mostly just convenient; I already had a tub, from doing the rotors two weeks ago. It isn't obviously smoother, but didn't hurt anything either!

whatever you have for grease works fine. Most of the ones I've rebuilt have used wheel bearing grease.

If the motor gets full of water, it can make it quit working, so clear the drains out.

Install new dew wipes to help divert the water from going inside the door.

Is this something that I can get from RockAuto, or is this something that I have to match up with generic dew wipes in JC Whitney or something like that?

I cleaned the drain holes, degreased the inner door panel, rinsed it, and POR 15'd halfway up the inner door panel last night. I used the leftover POR15 to coat the outside lower door lip. Hopefully this will prevent rust from forming. It also seems to make the water drain faster. I will grease up the motor gear and the window rod as well and get this thing running before I'm put to death.

Water is still going to go in the door. That's what the drains are for.

Yes. Water does indeed still get by the dew wipes...but with new ones installed much much less water gets by. I can guarantee it.
