    low pressure cycling switch adjustment....

The A/C on my car cools, but doesnt get cold. I have read about adjusting low pressure switch.
whats the object here ? do I want to adjust it so the pressure is lower? currently it cycles to about 22-25 psi on the low side.
which way do I turn the adjuster?

got gauges on the car now .... low side goes to 30psi and no lower.

is the system overcharged? or do I need to adjust the cycling switch.

after running for 10 mins the low side goes up to 40 psi and stays there, no matter what I do. I have adjusted the switch in both directions, bled off freon and added freon, it makes no difference, sits at 40 psi on the low side.

this compressor is noisey, wondering if it has a problem. I just replaced it last summer.

dude... why you hi-jacking my thread !!! ???
              go make your own thread.

but answer your question, its completely different problems.
On your car the A/C system is cooling, but very little air is blowing out of the vents. On my car the A/C system is NOT cooling as it should, but it blows air out of the vents slightly better than your car.
Good Year broke the heater box in your car, and its not sealing properly to the fire fall or to the rest of the duct work.

Messing with the switch just lets the pressure get lower before the compressor kicks out. Usually R134 is a little happier cutting out at 20, where R12 wants about 25-28. If you're at 40, then messing with the switch won't do squat. High pressure on the low side sounds like the compressor isn't making proper suction, or its way overcharged. What are you seeing on the high side? If its not over about 250 with decent airflow, I'd have to wonder about that compressor. If its over 250, then it sounds like it may be overcharged.

yeah.. I am leaning towards a faulty compressor. High side is right around 250 psi.
I played with it some more and low pressure went up to 45 psi now, air out of vents is a dismal 60 degrees.

guess its time to order a new compressor... Again

The last compressor came from some on-line discount/close out place. it was supposed to be a AcDelco reman, but was something different in the box. it had Ford stampings on the metal case and appeared to be new. I used a cheap, aftermarket dryer from the parts store that was much shorter than the factory unit. I had to modify the bracket for the low pressure switch to clear with the shorter dryer installed.

this time I wanted an name brand compressor, the MotorCraft compressor doesn't come with a clutch and it was rather pricey. the clutch pieces are sold separately and almost as much as the compressor. AcDelco units seem to be decent quality, but I wasn't able to find one.
I got a new compressor w/clutch (forget the brand) from a reputable wholesaler tha I do business with on a regular basis.

I also opted for the MotorCraft dryer this time, which hopefully will be the correct size.

This will be a good time to pull the leaking radiator have it fixed. I also plan on pressure washing the Condenser well and remove the blower motor and cleaning the evap core.

Your problems, and approach to fixing things, are similar to mine.

Why do you not want to disassemble and rebuild the compressor? Yes cost may be close however knowing it is done right must hold some value.

Do you have any MotorCraft part numbers? I was thinking of replacing hoses, etc., along with pulling everything out, clean, inspect, repair, reassemble.

Are there other things to do while area is being worked on, eg. heater/blower/other?

got the compressor/dryer and orifice tube replaced the other day.

new compressor was a new aftermarket and slighty different design. only problems I ran into was having to grind a little bit off to make the support bracket fit and get a half inch shorter belt, because the pulley was slightly smaller.

also spent a little bit more ($153) to get a Motorcraft drier. the difference is noticable, as the aftermarket unit I got
last time was shorter and fit poorly.

car goes to the shop wednesday to get charged, fingers crossed that it cools well this time.
