So does it appears to helped free up some horsepower? That would be my reason to do it. I have been thinking about for awhile, but with all new parts. But if I can use a used fan, and wire myself, I'll do it. I "hot wired" a fan in a 2.3L mustang, and it ate every switch we used, so I think a relay is a definitely a must. Maybe 2.3L mustang fan will work, anybody try? Should be easy to get one, I have people practically give me 4cyl mustangs, so might easy to locate one on the fan on the cheap.

They should work but they are big and ugly. Also you might gain 5 hp from going to an electric fan.

you'll gain some HP from the mechanical fan being gone... but lose some for the extra load on the alternator.

I just took my car for a spin with the electric fan for the first time. It's not a huge difference, but it does seem to let the engine rev a little more freely with less in the way of annoying noises.

I did not see any performance gains. However, The cooling was much much better.

I like the sounds of that. Or, rather, the sounds of anything but my mechanical radiator fan. I need to find an electric fan now lol

Yeah ... while purely cosmetic, that's got to be one of the best parts of this swap. It gets old listening to your underhood systems rattle and wonder what's going to fall off next. I'm now half-tempted to embark on a campaign to hunt down and eliminate all excessive underhood noises, now that I had a taste of what it must be like with a newer car to hear nothing but whirr from the engine and a burble from the exhaust.

electric fan makes changing the water pump on a 302 infinitely easier... no futzing with the fan bolts before you can get the fan/shroud out of the way. I an seriously considering this.

Is the choice of the fan basically limited to what you can make fit?

Not having to deal with those 4 fan bolts alone is worth the upgrade if you ask me.

Are they that bad? I have no idea what is actually involved in yanking the fan out.

Ya, if it fits you can use it. All the fan does is move air.

Figured that, and since all it needs is a good 12v then I guess it doesn't matter who made it. thanks!

I haven't noticed any performance or economy difference from the fan and the big radiator ended overheating issues. The fan might have some marginal advantage. Only noticeable difference on these very hot days is when I stop it doesn't and is loud enough so passersby in the supermarket parking lot eye it as if its going to blow up.

Any guidelines I should follow picking out a switch to mount on my dash? I guess as long as it's relayed it doesn't matter but it doesn't hurt to ask.
