Forgive my n00bage, I've done some reading on it...and, predictably, I want one. Can I even fit one of these in place of my digital clock? Does the 90-91 harness work like the one everyone else is talking about? splicing the (presumably) 5 existing wires and then getting one for fuel flow and one from the speedometer?

It can't fit in the place of your digital clock. The spot for it on the 89-back dashes are much bigger. See the attached picture for a size comparison on the tripminder.

I doubt if the harnesses are there, but the engine computer still provides the right signals, if you find those wires and tap into them. I'm going to try to do this eventually.

      Sorry for huge pic.

        What's in the pic?

Does anyone have the physical dimensions of the tripminder? If it won't fit there I bet something could be made to fit it inside and mount someplace. Under the ashtray? I dunno

I understood them to be foolish looking things with a big row of buttons on the bottom

I'm sure if you were really determined to wire one up, you might be able to place it in one of the vents. You would have to modify the bezel somehow to make it fit. Best solution in my opinion would be to put a dash from an older car in place of yours. Not sure what you'd run into with that swap as the 90-91 floorpans are different. Not saying it can't be done, but either way you're going to have fun.

The one with the row of buttons is for the towncar. the one in the pic above is fine. It will work but I didn't know about the dash opening size difference. It still should work with little modifications.

'90 and '91 vics and mercs didn't get to get such a lovely device. You're stuck with a stupid little clock unless you're really good with fabricating stuff. Or, if you don't really care and want it for functionality, you could add the wires for the tripminder and stick the tripminder between the two front seats. *Looks at Thain*
