best way to separte turn signal lens from the base

I just got the clear turn signal lens, and all of the silver coating inside of the lens base is either gone or is about to be. What is the best way to separate the two parts from each other without breaking anything. My guess would be to use a razor knife, but there is probably an easier (and safer) way to do it. I just really do not want to fuck them up, so I want to do it right the first time. So wahts the best way to do it?

i just used a thin screwdriver... maybe put them in some hot water for a while first to soften up the adhesive. A little clear silicone works great to seal them back up.

I wouldnt use a razor knife because you can apply to much pressure to the fragile plastics and just crack everything. I would first try using a razor blade simply held in your hand. This way you cannot apply a lot of pressure and it would be more difficult to slide off course and cut the lenses. If you have a steady hand I would even suggest using a variable speed rotary tool with a thin cut off wheel attached to rip through the old adhesive.

Yeah you could try using a razor to chop the adhesive between the pieces. be careful!!!

Im not worried about the bases as much as the lenses themselves (the bases can easily be replaced) I probably will soak them and use a combination of a razor blade and a small flathead screwdriver. I might just find a crappy set of ambers at the yard and practice before I do the real deal
