    power seats

    Hi

here is the problem on my 95 town car the driver seat knob for it to move left, right and back and forth. It moves in all directions execpt it wont go back it will move foward but not back. So it cant be the motor right?

I think that it might be the harness that has the knob maybe something burned out i dont know the car was like that when i got it

please any help will help cause its very uncomfortable driving with your knees touching your chest!!!!

If the motor will go one way and not the other, I'd probably have to say it's not the motor. It's possible the switch is bad. Try another switch and see if that corrects the problem. Also, check to see if there's anything keeping the seat from going back, such as water bottles or straps or something.

Yank the switch and clean it up.

+1, switch is dirty. The switch just reverses polarity on the motor, so if it goes forward, the motor and wiring is good.

I would think plain ol' contact cleaner would work fine but I could be wrong.

electrical contact cleaner, though you may have to polish the contact points up with a piece of paper. Currency works really well for this. Its strong and doesn't leave lint behind. Of course this assumes its the type of switch you can actually take apart enough to clean. Not all of them can be serviced. If its one that doesn't open up to expose the contacts, you'll probably need a replacement.

So I've cleaned it up and still nothing.

I just went to the junk yard and found a town car and I took the little switch box and changed it and it worked!!!! Now I can drive in comfort!!!
